On the latest issue of Harper's Bazaar Katrina Kaif complemented her Dior dress with shiny lavender lip gloss. Makeup artist Mickey Contractor used a full coverage lipstick, but topped it with shimmery lavender lip gloss. "I highlighted the lips with the gloss without overdoing it," he said. "They emphasized the colors in her eye makeup."

Look 1: Bohemian Butterfly

Face

To get this colorful, bohemian look start with a flawless, glowing base. Blend a suitable shade from Lakme’s range of foundations created specially for Indian skin tones. Highlight your eyes with the Earth Rose Blush Trio in Rose Sweeping towards your cheekbones. This will form a warm sheen of color for the flower lace pattern. To create the delicate lace highlight, start by adding some water to the magenta shade from the Silk Route Quartet. Using an applicator or a brush, draw dainty flowers high up on your cheekbone. Use a darker shade of the blush in the hollow of your cheekbone to highlight the contours.Finally use the nude beige or peach shades to add a subtle shine on your forehead, nose and chin.

Face

It all starts with the global trend immersion by the Lakmé team. The selected trends are translated for different types of faces and skin, and sees culmination in a collection that is co-created with the Lakmé Make up Artists and the Lakmé Grand Finale designer. The Lakmé product collection reflects the expertise of the make up artists and the creativity of the designer.   This season, Lakmé is launching the “Gypsy Collection” along with Lakmé Grand Finale designer Malini Ramani. It’s been a great experience working with the Lakmé team and Cory and Clint.” Clint Fernandes, Lakmé Make-up Expert shares his experiences while developing the collection, “I researched a lot of ethnic communities in detail from around the world and picked out elements that are typical to them yet could be tailored to the contemporary scenario.”   In Cory Wallia’s opinion, the Gypsy collection, like all other Lakmé collections, encapsulates a brand philosophy of delivering world class products customized for the Indian woman.   The palette is in sync with the festive and celebratory mood of the winter season.  The products in the range have are earthy yet vibrant colors and a satin texture.

There were collections and there was the presentation. Beauty took centre stage at the Lakme Fashion Week on day one with bold colors, nude lips and Amy Winehouse-inspired updos. A look at our favorite shows that rocked the beauty boat.

Krishna Mehta

Buffed up in nudes, Krishna Mehta’s show was subtle elegance and grace. The makeup was all about chiseled bones, immaculate eyes with a hint of blue and green and an Amy Winehouse-inspired beehive updo. The idea was to enhance the face without going overboard with colors.

Pragya and Megha for Gen Next

If there was an award for innovative hair pieces, it would definitely have gone to the newest mother-daughter designer duo, Pragya and Megha Samor. The hair was wrapped up in a tight bun and the straw hair pieces in neon colors added more than just glamour to the whole outfit. Add an orange lip and its fun all the way.

It was Bengali elegance and simplicity at Soumitra Mondal with laid back waves and a middle parting. The makeup was flawless, the eyes super sharp and winged while the cheekbones dabbed on a bit more bronzer.

Manish Arora

Think Katy Perry on acid, Manish Arora’s shine and sparkle at the Lakme fashion Week was aspirational beauty at its best. Dramatic eyes, sparkly lips and multi-colored lashes – the psychedelic look can be incorporated into your day if you could just stick to one element instead of going all out. Stick to the lips or the eyes, never do both.

NYFW S/S 2011 Make-up Trends: Oscar de la Renta

"The clothes are so beautiful - classic Oscar," says make-up artist Gucci Westman. "We wanted the girls to be vibrant and happy and chose to highlight the face with rich green shades on the eye. The jewel-tones just pop and compliment the entire collection. It's a great way to lighten up the traditional smoky eye for spring."  The eye was actually called Venetian Blue and the Matte Eyeshadow was paired with the ColorStay 12 Hour Eyeshadow Quad in Silver Fox which hits stores in October.

Make-up Trend: Baby Doll Pink Blush

Make-up artists have always taught us that when it comes to blush, it's best to blend, blend, blend. In Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's latest movie Robot, (that explains the crazy headpiece) she shows us there's something alluring about strong pops of color on the center of your cheeks. Rather than sweeping blush upwards along your cheekbones and temples, swirl it heavily along the apples of your cheeks and below. And select a brighter tone than usual—the bold hue will be surprisingly more flattering than you think.

Hair Trend: Mini Braid

On the cover of the first issue of Adorn Magazine, Sonam Kapoor sported a mini braid with a messy bun. To get her look, take a one-inch section of hair from the hairline and start by French braiding it for about two inches; then let the braid hang loosely as you continue the braid to ear-level. Secure it to the head with a bobby pin and pull the rest of the hair back into a messy bun and using a tail-comb take out a few strands of hair in the front and curl them.

Make-up Trend: Cool Coral Lips

Orangey lip colors may seem more suited for the runway than real life, but as Sonakshi Sinha showed us on the opening night of Lakme Winter Festive Season, the right color can work for nearly any occasion. If you're interested in experimenting with the shade, look for one with pink and rose undertones. The cool hues will take some of the edge off the yellowy pigments found in most corals, thereby flattering nearly any skintone.

Studio Finish Concealer – applied where needed.  

Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder – to minimize shine in the T-zone.  

Pinch ‘O Peach Powder Blush – added to the apples of the cheeks, completely diffused out in a sunburst effect.

EYES  

Brick Lip Pencil – blended from the lashline to the crease of the eyelids, diffused out toward the outer corners of the eyes.  

Antiqued Eye Shadow – tapped on top of the diffused pencil to extend the shape of the eye in a horizontal direction.  

Diva Lipstick – added to the inner and outer crease of the eyelids for soft definition.  

Black Haute and Naughty Mascara – applied to heavily curled lashes.  

LIPS

Sugarrimmed Dazzleglass – applied with a 231 brush.  

NYFW S/S 2011 Make-up Trends: Ohne Titel

The star of the beauty look was a strong coral lip, which stood out brilliantly against a nude face. "The look is about an effortless chic but sporty girl. She's very athletic, but still feminine," Westman told StyleList. The Revlon makeup artist fell so in love with the color, that she brought it back from a previous palette for a new Fire & Ice collection launch this November. Some models were given naturally nude lips so as not to overwhelm the runway with coral lips.

Get the Look:
All makeup by Revlon. Add a soft glow to face with Age Defying Spa Face Illuminator, and apply just a touch of Cream Blush in Berry Flirtatious to warm up the complexion. Make-up Trend: Berry Stained Lips

If you've always avoided red lipstick because it feels too severe, try a berry stained hue like Freida Pinto did at the TIFF Festival. She went for a hint of berry tint, giving a berry punch to match her gorgeous dress. It looks puckery and stays on pretty well. To make the look stay-put, apply balm once the stain sets in to bare lips.

At the launch of Audi's car showroom, Bipasha Basu turned heads with incredibly simple—but downright perfect make-up to compliment that forest green Nandita Mahtani dress. The key to pulling off such a no-fuss look? Even your skintone by touching up shadowy areas around your mouth and nose with concealer, smooth and groom your brows, apply a sweep of eyeliner to your top lids and finish with a swipe of pinky nude lipstick. The result was understated and sweetly polished.

Make-up Trend: A Gold Look

Lara Dutta got into her 'Apsara' character mode flawlessly, on the latest issue of Hi Blitz. To get her golden-bronzy look, brush a peachy-gold eye shadow all over your lids, stopping at the creases, and diffuse the color toward the outer edges. Starting at the creases, blend a bronzy eye shadow up to your crease. Apply a black eye liner along your upper lash line and wing it at the ends. Swipe black mascara over your upper and lower lashes. Using a blush brush, apply a golden highlighter on your cheeks, nose, forehead. Apply a nude lipstick with golden undertones to your lips.
